"Craft Talks"

Merry Christmas!  We were welcomed into our Holiday lunch at the Skirball Center by the lovely music from the Santa Monica High School Orchestra.

President Mark welcomed everyone in his jolly way and wished us Happy Holidays.

PDG Bill Goodwyn provided our Invocation and when it was pointed out we did not have a flag, our resourceful not meaning any disrespect PE, Aly Shoji, pulled one up on a cell phone to provide one for our pledge.

Guin Lyster shared two socials coming up:
  1. The first is was this Saturday, December 14, 2013 at 10:00a.m. a dozen of us ventured to Ocean Star Restaurantlocated at 145 North Atlantic Blvd., 3rd Floor, in Monterey Park, CA 91854 (626) 308-2128  and then onto visit a Chinese bakery for pastries or Christmas shopping.  Even London Shoji (now five and still the only baby to be born by a member in our club) joined us for dim sum
  2. Guin is also coordinating a cruise on May 16 - she described some beautiful and fun adventures including a stop in SF port to meet up with our fellowship club from Chinatown.  Please let her know if you are interested.
President Rogo asked who was on the front page of the Los Angeles Business Journal?  Our very own, John Heidt!  Mark fined John $100 for being on front page of the LABJ and for finally getting his B&B open in Santa Monica.  The ONLY B&B in Santa Monica!

Our a generous President also presented a check to the talented Director of the Santa Monica High School Orchestra.

Sheila and Mike Yousem shared a Rotary moment they had at the recent shopping event with the kids.  Even after 29 years, they are still touched at Rotary's impact.  Mike and Sheila met a family before we were matched up with our kids this year and learned how the father lost his job and has been looking but just has not been able to find one.  They shared how they struggled and how the WVRC made their holiday "and we are such decent people." The WVRC put a light in their holiday and it made a difference. Thank you to all our members who participated by being there or by donating past or present.  And Mike asked that Anne Samson and Diane Good be given a special big thank you for their extraordinary efforts to continue to help Mike make this happen.  29 years of blessings to this community, amazing.
And thank you, VP Dr. Colby Smith for organizing EVERYTHING although you were not able to attend.

It is with great regret to report the passing of our great Andy Anderson today. Andy left us Saturday morning with his wife Pat at his side and will be missed by all of us. Funeral and Memorial plans are in the process, and Pres. Mark will keep the Club informed. Please keep Pat and the family in your prayers.

Next week:
It's our LAST meeting until the New Year (Jan 9) so don't forget it is club assembly AND to bring your white elephant gift.  I saw someone's who brought their gift early thinking it was last week and get ready it's going to be funny!
